Slump

And I was being so good about updating this, too.

I hit a predictable reading/writing slump, partly due to rejections from a lot of PhD programs that I was really counting on getting into ... having felt, in part, that I was betrayed by my books, I nonsensically decided to avoid them. In any case, I haven't gotten much reading done since I finished White Noise. I picked up Lolita, read the introduction, was enthralled, realized that this was a book that I was necessarily going to worship, read the first two pages, and immediately got scared that I wasn't in the right frame of mind to absorb it at the moment. So it's sitting sadly on my desk with a bookmark in it. I want to read it, I really do. Maybe next week.

In the mean time, I've been reading a lot of poetry and stories from the New Yorker and things like that. I just finished T.S. Eliot's "Four Quartets." I came here intended to write something intelligent and insightful about them, but I think that is also going to have to be postponed.

Can't wait for this slump to be over.
